Dear Chairman,

Im writing to you in connection with the cases of Hadj Boudellaa, Boumediene Lakhdar, 
Mohamed Nechle, Saber Lahmar, Bensayah Belkacem, and Mustafa Ait Idir, all of whom have been unlawfully 
detained by the US authorities at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, since January 2002.

I would remind you of the reports of the European Parliaments Temporary Committee and the 
report of Senator Dick Marty, the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 
renditions.

I urge you to undertake the diplomatic intervention on behalf of the six men as recommended by the June 
2006 report of the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Diplomatic 
intervention would also partly contribute to fulfilling the requirements of the Bosnia and Herzegovina 
Human Rights Chamber's 2002 decisions on behalf of the six men.

I also urge you to call on the US authorities to open an investigation into the allegations of torture 
and ill-treatment of Mustafa Ait Idir and to bring those responsible to justice.

Finally, I ask you to ensure that, if released, the six men are allowed to return to Bosnia and 
Herzegovina, if they so wish, and are not sent to Algeria or any other state where they would be at risk 
of further human rights violations, including torture or other ill-treatment.
